I’m reuploading an old video of mine and added narration this time. So if you want to hear me talk about how I plan for the detailing part of any illustration, then check this video out.
For the ones who are curious about the art tip in the video, the art tip is about how to balance the detailed parts of a painting with the non-detailed parts. In short, I plan for a 40/60, 30/70, or 20/80 ratio. This means that in my paintings, I have 40% of the painting detailed, the rest are loose details, or I have 30% detailed parts in my painting, 70% loose details, etc.
I never go full 100% percent details, nor do I go anything under the 40/60 ratio. So I would never do a 50% details 50% non-details either. Using any of those ratios will heavily unbalanced your painting. I.e., going 100% percent full details will make one’s illustration look so busy, it would be annoying to look at.
