Sketchbook Update 01.26.2020

Her name is Rio and she dances on the sand
Just like that river twisting through a dusty land
And when she shines she really shows you all she can
Oh Rio, Rio dance across the Rio Grande

I can’t help it… it was playing as I write this post… sort of… I mean, Toto is playing now, but Rio was blasting earlier. So yeah… I figured I would share that because that is what this post is all about…. my favorite 80’s songs to sing while I paint. That is the subject of this post. Just kidding… I’m not going to embarrass myself like that, lol. Anyways, take a look!

I did a few other sketches, paintings, 3D modeling, and speed paints on top of these. But because of legalese, I’m keeping those art projects secrets for now. Bummer. But I can definitely talk about these two;

The one on the right I was really enamored with. The prompt for that speed paint is “Nothing to Wear.” I had a totally different idea about the pic when I first started, but totally switched gears when I saw something else as I sketched. I like my lighting scheme of the piece. The girl being backlit the way she is makes the composition uber interesting.

As for the one on the left… I don’t know what to call the piece. It’s been a while since I just did a sketch without thinking of composition and what not… so it’s cool that I came up with this line sketch out of thin air. The first robot I drew is the second one from the left. I was originally just going to draw him, but then I did the one on the far left, and then the photo just kind of evolved. I didn’t realize there was a hidden composition in my sketching… but as soon as I saw it I ran with it and never looked back. Fun times.
