The pencil was never really my thing. For some odd reason when I do my sketches, I would jump straight to pen. It’s honestly not the best approach since if I was to make a mistake, it’s difficult to take away. But alas, I am more enamored with the pen than with a pencil. Hence why this particular image is a rarity;
This particular artwork is an old pencil work I did back in college. I’m not sure what the assignment was, but it called for me to do a pencil sketch instead of any other medium. I remember taking a long time to finish this piece given that the size of the paper was bigger than what I’m accustomed to. Covering all that space with a tiny point pencil took a long time. But the results are stunning.
I really should give pencils more love than what I give it. It’s an underrated medium, and not a lot of people use it often. I should also consider taking up more color pencil work. I made my first color pencil painting last year, and I was so impressed with the vividness of the painting. Color pencils don’t look like pastels or acrylics or oils. It has its own unique look. I should make another color pencil painting like that soon.
