This is an old portrait of me and a friend. I drew it using a photo reference. If I am not wrong, we were hanging out at the Velvet Hookah when this picture was taken. That was such a long time ago, I don’t even think the Velvet Hookah still exists in Deep Ellum. (A quick google check yields a Velvet Hookah in Addison. It is not the same Velvet Hookah). I was so young back then, and I had hair! Was I sporting the emo look? Seriously I don’t know what is going on here.
Anyways… I posted this semi portrait because November 1 was International Self-Portrait day. No, it wasn’t International selfie day, it was a day for artists to paint a self-portrait. There was a thread in the old CA forum that hosted a bunch of self-portraits. I joined last year and was looking to add my self-portrait this year, but alas we all know where CA is… 🙁 As for this year’s portrait, I didn’t get to do it because things are kind of a mess with my personal projects. When artworks get sorted out and after projects get done then hopefully I could find time to render a self-portrait. I’m really aiming to draw it before the end of the year.
As for the artwork… well… it’s old, so obviously I don’t like it. Maybe I could redraw this old portrait… if only I could find the original pic….
